I am Gabriel McLean, call me Gabe. I am a 35 year resident of Prince Rupert. I am married and have raised my children here. I was employed by the Prince Rupert Airport Authority (now retired as of March 2010). My management skills come from Corporate and Federal Training and many years of Employment. I have been involved with local organizations from Minor Hockey to First Nations Health to Union representation, these activities over the time span of my residency in Prince Rupert.

I am committed to a green community (sewage treatment), fiscal responsibility, infrastructure renewal, and a ten year plan to ensure future growth of the community by investing in infrastructure projects and encouraging any and all investors (heavy industry and manufacturers) to look seriously at the city with the highest potential growth in British Columbia. I will commit to finding efficient ways of improving the community and its services. Reports of all public business discussed in council and in camera should be presented to the public. I will also seek to improve the security of our downtown core. In these uncertain economic times we need to look seriously at how the City Budget has been prioritized. The only promise I can make is; if the money is available, projects can be undertaken. We must understand that regardless of the election results, the size of the pot of money available to budget will not change.

We must try to have a trustworthy council by making some positional changes this election. Single issue and special cause councillors will not be objective when voting on issues that may or may not affect an organization that they are tied to. I will do the job with respect for the opinions of all the electorate. I will work only in legal acceptable ways and not work on the fringes of legal or ethical behaviour.

I call upon the youth of our community and every eligible voter of our community to VOTE; get involved in the cities future. Vote for me, a candidate that has empathy with you and will hear you and act on your suggestions. A vote for Gabe McLean will go a long way. This is my community, it has sustained me and given me much, I would like to return in kind.

Too the voters that put their X on the line for me this election thank You, Let’s do it again!!! Too those that choose other candidates my respect to you for your community support and interest.

From the desk of Gabe McLean;

First let me make it clear that
to me there are only two real issues in this election:

1.
The budget and how it is handled.

2.
Real community growth through industry
development incentives.

Every other discussion raised
is in my view a corporate business decision that must put revenue into the
hands of our taxpayers. The success of every other discussion relies on the two
real issues being dealt with successfully.

Questions and Answers:

1.
What do you think the City should do in regards
to CityWest?

City west is an asset to the city. The only thing to do is take advantage
of the profits that are generated to improve the balancing of the City Budget.
It is a sound business decision to keep what is successful. I am confident
CityWest will be a successful asset for us for some time to come. I will not
sell CityWest.

2.
What are your ideas for moving the city forward
economically?

The only reason any city exists is on the strength of its industries.
When elected, I will motion that the city move on its own and in partnership
with existing industries and business to develop plans and infrastructure to
attract new industry to do business in
Prince Rupert. I will be very conscious that we do not become protectionist
with our business development plans.

3.
How are you going to control the rising taxes in
Prince Rupert given the infrastructure needs?

The answer to this question is dependent on how successful I am when
elected at executing the answers to question 1 & 2. All of the cities
assets (Digby Island Ferry, Alaska Terminal Building, The Airport and CityWest)
must be profitable or breaking even and contributing positive cash flow into
our City Budget. If the cash flow is negative, a business decision will have to
made to divest our city of the assets or find creative ways to make it
profitable. Infrastructure covers a wide range of items from sewage to services
development, cost controlled planning is the best way to deal with
infrastructure over a long period of time. I will not make any changes beyond
current inflation rates without taxpayer consultation and permission.

Here is my platform in point
form: These points will be priorized as the public sees the need.

I will
vote to get approval from taxpayers before any tax increases beyond
inflation rates and will attempt to keep increases below inflation rates.
Infrastructure
and public safety are my top budgetary concerns.
Citizens
will receive accurate and timely information from their municipal
government. Dialogue with mayor and council allowing all opinions on any
matter affecting the city will be supported.
I will
not support third party financing of other organizations unrelated to city
business and will vote no to financing of any projects or services that
are the responsibility of other jurisdictions egg: Federal, Provincial, Regional
or Private.
I will
support measures for recall, municipal auditing, and public opinion rules.

I am committed to a green community,

reporting of all public business practises will be presented for public
scrutiny. I will also seek to improve the security of our downtown core. In

Hey,

Ok, so this guys name is Rob Vallee, running for Alderman in Prince Rupert. He is a past owner of DataBoy Computers here. He walked on his partners because he thought they were treating him badly. They were getting pissed at him because of the way he was running the company. He invited two employees to become partners then left the business after taking a draw on his shareholders account over time. That amount exceeded his credit by more than $5000.00.
Items one of his partners says are true-
He was audited a couple years ago and as recently as last year there were Canada Revenue agents looking for him at the store that he bailed out on.
He deducted money from employees for extended medical and when two of the employees went to the dentist they were presented with invoices that the dentist said they had to pay personally as there was no extended coverage for them. It is not known who ended up paying after all.
His partner who now runs DataBoy has had to pay off a number of checks and fees they incurred as a result of checks he bounced to suppliers. He also bounced some payroll checks as well.
He now runs a business out of a converted ambulance rather than a store front.

Problem, the public is unaware of how he runs his show and he is running high enough in the polls to the point that he will probably get in.
