“After a long debate with some very close friends and colleagues, I have decided to run for the Prince Rupert City Council as a councillor. I have been wanting to get involved with the city politics since I moved back in 2004 but never had the time to dedicate myself. Since moving back here again I have committed myself to doing more for the community. I strive at getting as involved as I can with volunteer work which includes coaching and working with youth.

I am running for the Prince Rupert City Council because I truly care about the people and care about what happens in our community. I believe that each and everyone in this city, has the right to a voice. I will provide a strong voice and represent Prince Rupert citizens well. We are just getting our campaign platform solidified so…..stay tuned you will hear it shortly. Just know, I am honest, hardworking, diligent, respectful and fair. And a born and raised Kaien Islander!”

1. What is your stance on CityWest now that it appears unable to compete effectively with the major Telco’s and is rapidly becoming a major liability to the taxpayers of PR? By this I am referencing industry trends to declining land line usage, the dramatic upswing in cellular usages and new technologies that permit video /cable services to be delivered wirelessly and of course the ability of CityWest to compete in product line up, reliability and quality of service against Rogers, Telus and Bell.
2.Are you satisfied with how CityWest is performing?
3. Would you support releasing the original five year plan now that it is a historical document so the citizens of PR could assess how successful this decision to become a regional telecom was?

I have been able to do adequate research not only on city west but the competitors and came to the conclusion that Citywest is a reputable company. I believe that Prince Rupert residents should be proud of our local phone provider, especially considering that they give 1million in revenue back to the city and is one of the few companies that are able to do this.

In the past, I was a disgruntled about the slow development in the terms of technology but it isn’t from a lack of trying. Our location does limit us and now I feel that they are doing well at targeting what they need to impove on and working towards their goals

With the new economic developments getting ready to launch, expansions, new industries, I believe that we need to keep Citywest running and promote them in any way we can. I am all for local businesses and feel that we need to celebrate our successes as Prince Rupert people rather than critique them. I know that they don’t have the 3g/4g technology yet but I think it we are very close to having these capabilities. Thank you for the question.
